Presentation of the National Center for Industrial Design and Innovation 2050.LAB was held at NUST MISiS

On January 22, 2020, a presentation of the National Center for Industrial Design and Innovation 2050.LAB was held at the National University of Science and Technology MISiS (NUST MISiS).

The event was attended by the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov, CEO of Transmashholding JSC (TMH) Kirill Lipa, CEO of 2050.LAB Darya Topilskaya, and rector of NUST MISiS Alevtina Chernikova.

As part of the presentation, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between 2050.LAB and NUST MISiS to implement developmental work for enterprises in Russia's transport and machine engineering complex. The document implies joint engineering work to create innovative products, including transport machine engineering, and conducting reviews of technical solutions and research, etc.

"The signing of the agreement between the National Center for Industrial Design and Innovation 2050.LAB and NUST MISiS is an important event for Russian industry. This project will help to interact with industries, to make Russian products competitive not only on the domestic market, but also on foreign markets. Since 2013, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, together with the Ministry of Education and Science, has been implementing a program to create and develop engineering centers on the basis of higher educational organizations. The High Complexity Prototyping Center at NUST MISiS, recognized as the winner of the first stage of competitive selection, is one of the key institutions. A total of 877 million rubles were invested in it. This allowed us to prepare the premises and equip the center with the most modern production equipment,” said Denis Manturov.

2050.LAB will be engaged in implementing projects designed to increase the attractiveness and competitiveness of domestic products on the Russian and international markets, as well as development work for enterprises in Russia's transport and machine engineering complex.

2050.LAB's production capacities are located at a universal modern high-tech site, NUST MISiS's High Complexity Prototyping & Engineering Center.

Designers, engineers, constructors, and technology experts at 2050.LAB, who have extensive experience in leading industrial design bureaus in Russia and Europe, are faced with the task of integrating modern global trends in industrial design into the real everyday practices of Russian industry.

The Center's employees will be engaged in developments in the field of industrial design for industrial products and facilities, as well as high complexity prototyping. The laboratory will carry out searches, pilot application and implementation of innovative materials in production, and adaptation of developments to the requirements of current industry standards. Experts from 2050.LAB will also conduct retraining and advanced training of builders and designers at partner companies' production sites.

2050.LAB CEO Darya Topilskaya spoke about the Center's tasks, the team's strengths, as well as implemented and promising projects. She, in particular, noted the concept design of the TEM5X shunting hybrid locomotive, which was presented as part of the PRO//Dvizhenie Expo in 2019. "The modern world is constantly and rapidly changing. This is a serious challenge for industry, as it requires a reduction in product development time, rapid prototyping, and testing of products. Therefore, under conditions of fierce competition, a unique product design becomes no less an important advantage than applied technologies. The TEM5X concept is a unique fusion of technology and aesthetics in one ergonomic solution. The locomotive's thoughtful design allows you to emphasize its advantages, attract attention, and show the whole essence of the machine," she stressed.

The National Center for Industrial Design and Innovation 2050.LAB was founded in February 2019. The company's strategic partners are Transmashholding JSC, LocoTech LLC, Ctrl2GO Group, and Autodesk. 2050.LAB forms the global ecosystem of the brand: from industrial design of objects to the design of business culture, environment, and thinking. In 2019, 2050.LAB and Autodesk agreed to create a Expert Center for the development and implementation of innovations in the field of industrial design, preparation of industry standards, and local regulations. Autodesk will additionally participate in the creation of a certified training center based on the 2050.LAB to train third-party employees.
